Wash Instructions First Wash Dry Clean. Hand Wash post that.

Originating from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, pittan/pitta/pita work gets its name from the inherent characteristic of beating the embroidery!  In its look, it forms similarities to Gota Patti, and therefore it found a HUGE hub for it in Jaipur (Rajasthan).

ɪꜱ ɪᴛ ᴀ ᴛʏᴘᴇ ᴏꜰ ʜᴀɴᴅ ᴇᴍʙʀᴏɪᴅᴇʀʏ ᴏʀ ᴍᴀᴄʜɪɴᴇ?

Traditionally a hand embroidery, Pittan work is now taken over by machines only.

ʜᴏᴡ ɪꜱ ᴘɪᴛᴛᴀɴ ᴡᴏʀᴋ ᴅᴏɴᴇ?

Basically, the design is first traced on the fabrics, then embroidery Is carried out using metallic wires - gold, silver, rose gold, copper etc (not real, of course), and then, the embroidery is beaten with a wooden hammer to give it a flatter, more solid look. The embroidery is done in circular or cyclical patterns to fill entire designs. When flattened out this gives a shiny elegant look of a solid filled design. While the entire process is time consuming, a majority of the time is spent on the last step - the beating of the embroidery - to ensure that the entire embroidery stays in one level and is not rough/irregular.

ɪꜱ ɪᴛ ᴅᴇʟɪᴄᴀᴛᴇ?

Pittan Work is actually much rougher than a lot of its counterparts like Gota Patti. Primarily because it is beaten down, but also because it is now done with machines. Therefore, it can be washed in machines without any worry of damaging the work! However, you will need to iron it properly, because since it is a metal wire embroidery, they tend to bend and stay in that shape unless flattened out. .
