Dabu is a mud-resist hand-block printing practiced in Rajasthan, India. It is a tedious process involving a number of steps and the use of natural dyes. This unique form of printing is also environmentally non-toxic as it uses no harmful or synthetic dyes. Dabu, or mud, is used to block colours on the fabric before dyeing leading to the distinct patterns on the fabrics. A variety of designs are used to decorate the fabric, including geometric prints, flowers or small animals. Traditionally, dabu prints were only found in grey colours and tones (a muddy-clay colour), but now the patterns have migrated to newer colours - especially indigo.

Wash Instructions: Handloom fabrics tend to bleed in the initial washes. Please wash them separately and do not soak them or dry them under direct sunlight. First wash dry clean is recommended as that strengthens the colours.

2750.00 3437
Length:  6.5m with Blouse piece

Fabric: Cotton

*Colours may vary slightly due to a difference in fabric and digital colours*

Ajrakh is usually found in Kutch (Gujarat) and Barmer (Rajasthan). Woodblock stamps are used to create different geometric patterns that are transferred onto the fabric using natural dyes, including vegetable and mineral dyes. The most common colours used include blue, red, black, yellow and green. One of the most common dyes used for this type of printing is indigo. Ajrak has been dated back to Mohenjo-daro, where the kings and royals have been shown wearing similar prints to those observed in ajrak patterns today. The beauty of ajrak is in its simplistic yet elegant patterns and natural texture. This is a handblock print fabric, and so there are irregularities in the prints and designs pertaining to handwork. The colours used are all natural dyes, so certain bleeding might also be observed in the initial washes. That is the beauty of this art, and is not an imperfection.

Fabric: Mercerised Cotton

Ikat is resist dyeing technique where the yarns are resist dyed and then woven into gorgeous patterns. The uneven sides are key to the fabric. As a woven fabric, these are reversible and look exactly the same from each side, different to the printed alternatives that try to mimic ikat.

Wash instructions: Hand wash recommended. Handloom fabrics tend to bleed during the initial washes, so please do not dry under direct sunlight or soak in water for long lasting colours.
